Negative self talk can be terribly destructive. I've told countless clients and friends over the years that they are not allowed to talk bad about themselves in my presence. In fact, at our initial consultations for a portrait session, I always ask what do my clients LOVE about themselves.
Sometimes that takes a few minutes to sink in.
What do I love about myself? What a shift in mindset of the constant barrage of negativity that we throw upon ourselves. Instead of "I hate my stretch marks" or "Ugh, my thighs have cellulite" they say things like "I love my hair" or "You know, I think I have sexy arms."
Affirmations can be powerful tools to change our inner dialogue, freeing you from negative self talk. I recommend you write these down, or print them out so you cam say them to yourself:
My self-talk has a powerful effect on my life, so I pay attention to what I say to myself.
I maintain a high level of awareness of my self-talk. I know that negative self-talk can have derogatory effects on my mood, decisions, actions, and results. For this reason, I make it a priority to think kindly of myself and use encouraging self-talk to uplift my spirits.
I have the power to control my self-talk. When I catch myself saying negative things to myself, I purposely change the narrative to say positive things to myself instead.
I have the ability to use positive self-talk to my advantage. I choose to say things that support me and drive me toward my objectives.
I make myself a more powerful and capable person by utilizing positive self-talk.
I accept that it can be challenging to always be positive, but I do the best that I can. I am up for this challenge. Each day, I become better at avoiding negativity. Each day, I am more accepting of positive thoughts and ideas. My brain is rewiring itself to be more
optimistic.
Today, I only pay attention to my positive thoughts and self-talk that supports me. I avoid all negative thoughts and self-talk. I am very optimistic about today and about the rest of my life.
What other topics on self love and self care would you like me to cover?
xoxo Pamela
